1) The Digital I/O connector is an 8-bit bi-directional TTL port that can be used to control peripheral equipment, such as relays, timers, etc, from a computer command or the front-panel. There is no way to use it to output instrument data, or to use it to control the instrument. The RS232 port, however, is a standard communications interface that can be used to control the instrument or read its outputs. 2) Please refer to Chapter 6 of the instruction manual, which describes how to control the instrument via the RS232 port.
