Connecting SIGNAL RECOVERY instruments to a computer

Most of our products are fitted with both GPIB and RS232 computer interface ports, while the computer that you want to use to control them might be fitted with USB or RS232 ports, or have space for an internal PCI-bus style GPIB interface card. The table below shows the part numbers required to connect the instrument to the computer for the RS232 and GPIB interfaces. The link on the left gives details of typical connection speeds achieved with the different connection methods for our most popular DSP lock-in amplifiers.

Our models 7124 and 7270 are fitted with RS232, USB, and Ethernet ports. If using RS232 communications use the connection details below; if using USB or Ethernet then simply use a USB A-B cable (p/n 796190), or Ethernet patch cable (straight through or crossover), respectively.

 Notes:
1) The SC0073S is a 2 meter (6') long GPIB cable. Alternatively you may order a SC0066S (1 meter) or SC0067S (4 meter) cables.

2) The CE0115S USB-GPIB Adaptor allows one instrument GPIB port to be connected to a USB port on the computer. To connect two or more instruments, add one GPIB cable (models SC0073S, SC0066S or SC0067S) for each extra instrument.

3) Each model 5105 or 5106 includes 1 x cable C01001, so you do not normally need to order this separately.

4) The Models 7124, 7270, 5105, 5106 and 5113 are not fitted with GPIB ports.

5) The 5113 and 9650A serial ports require a straight-through (i.e. not a null modem) cable to connect to the computer. Connecting a C01002 and C01003 cable in series achieves this.
